Eden Landing Ecological Reserve, Hayward: launch details
A newer public launch on tidal Mt Eden Creek in a 6,400-acre salt marsh reserve. An ADA gangway leads to a high-freeboard dock with a low-float attachment for non-motorized boats, with a turf rigging area at the top. About 30 free parking spaces sit a quarter mile away, with a portable restroom and miles of Bay Trail. The creek stays navigable at all tides, but extensive mudflats at its mouth dry out at low tide, so check the tide chart first. On about ten hunt dates between November and January the reserve closes to everyone except registered hunters, so check CDFW's schedule before a winter trip. A stormwater pipe near the launch can create a hazard. Landing along the shoreline is not allowed: it is nesting habitat for Ridgway's rail and the snowy plover.
